Mrs. Mickel Blaize, R.N.
The following are suggestions from the CDC to consider keeping at home in the event that you or someone in your family gets ill:
• Anti-fever medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin or Aleve (avoid aspirin with viral infections) • Sports/electrolyte drinks • Tissue, thermometer, facial mask, gloves antibacterial wipes • Bottled water • Tea • Jell-O (liquid at body temperature)
(If you are sick, to prevent the spread of the flu, you should not leave your home or be in public places such as grocery or drug stores where you could infect others)
H1N1 Swine Flu has been associated with gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. If you have these symptoms, it's important to stay hydrated. Start with a bland diet, where for the first day you consume only liquids such as sports drinks and water. Then begin to add easy to digest, high carbohydrate foods to you diet such as plain pasts, plain rice, plain baked potatoes, crackers, etc. Remaining adequately hydrated assists your immune system in remaining healthy and in overcoming infection. Influenza is commonly associated with cough, sore throat, runny nose and congestion. Over the counter cold and flu medications such as antihistamines, decongestants, cough relievers and lozenges may help. To prevent the spread of the virus to others in your household, remember to use good hand washing techniques, or antibacterial wipes. You might consider wearing a mask if you're the only one who is ill in your household or using gloves if you're caring for a family member. |

Medication Policy
In order to administer medication at school, we must have on file the Medication Administration Parent/Physician Authorization. This form gives the nurse parental permission and physician verification that it is necessary for the student to receive the medicine. The form is necessary for prescription as well as over-the-counter medications. The medication is provided to the school by an adult, may be brought to the school office or first aid room, in properly labeled container. A record of date, time administered, person who administered the medicine, reason for medicine is kept for each student.

Orthopedic Policy
Students sent to school with an orthopedic appliance such as a cast, sling, brace, splint, crutches, etc. must bring a note from the physician regarding diagnosis and activity restriction. If a student is sent to school with an appliance before seeing the doctor, please send a note stating an appointment has been made. This is a precautionary measure for the safety and well-being of your child and the other students. |
